In my last post (link) I gave you answers to some of the most common questions that come to your mind when reading about yoga in the business life.
Now let`s start with some concretes and see how everything that you learn on the yoga mat is reflected in your life off the yoga mat. This is the first of five learnings focusing on my professional experience as a consultant and how yoga ties to it without over-mystifying it.
1/5 Be respectful
On the mat – Sun salutation
Immagine you start your usual yoga practice early morning before sunrise on a weekday and you do the first posture, the Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskara). Every morning is unique, one day your body might feel sore, another day extremely flexible. You do the same yoga poses but it might feel different depending on your mood, how you slept, what keeps your mind busy, etc...
You have to respect the nature of your body otherwise you might get injured.
Listen actively to your body telling you which day is today and adapt your practice and the intensity accordingly.
Off the mat: Client salutation
Immagine you as a consultant start your next change project with a new client. New project, new team, new location, new culture. Similar situation as in your projects before but still a new and unique set up every time. Entering their building, having the first meetings with stakeholders. Getting the first impressions, starting to engage, testing your style and approach.
Clients appreciate if you don`t just try to fit them into a standard framework.
You realize that every company and team is unique in terms of their culture, their people, their products, their history, etc… and you treat them with respect.
Yoga mat takeaway:
The key to achieve the most benefits in your project as well as in your yoga practice is the respect you show towards your clients and your body.
